About Me

Hi there, my name is Gemma and I am a Postnatal Doula.

I'm 33 and a mum to two boys, Oscar and Leo.

Leaving education I followed my plan to work in finance and insurance and head to the city for a pretty hectic job and lifestyle. I soon surprised myself when I realised this was not for me. I retrained and qualified in early years education, childcare learning and development. Working in different settings from reception classrooms to baby rooms at private nurseries to my main role as a nanny based in London. Ive since got married, had two children and moved to Hertfordshire. As my youngest moved from baby to toddler, I  decided it was the perfect time for me to head out and help families across the area. My experience of living away from friends and family when I had new babies helped me decide that a postnatal doula was exactly what I wanted to do next. I cover Hertfordshire and North London.

What does a postnatal doula do?

A postnatal doula is there to support the whole family through the fourth trimester - the first 12 weeks of babies life, and sometimes beyond. Be it for a chat and some advice, a coffee and a cry or help so that parents have time for a shower or even a nap themselves as we all know  'sleep when baby sleeps' only goes so far!! At some point the laundry still needs doing ! I'm here to care for baby or even help with a few light household duties, I'll make the tea, put the washing on or whizz around with the hoover if it will help. I also offer evening and nighttime appointments , if parents need a night out or even a night in-their own bed for some undisturbed sleep! I can also arrange to be at home when midwives , health visitors etc call round, as I know a lot of parents that have felt nervous or worried about these appointments. I can support the wider family by helping with siblings, school runs etc. I can give reassurance and encouragement regarding feeding options and techniques, whichever way you to choose to feed your baby.

Please scroll down for more information on the services I offer, equally if there's help you need not mentioned, drop me a message. I'm here for you all, it can be a hard and lonely time and I promise it doesn't need to be that way. Lets enjoy these 12 weeks.

About

Services

Playtime

Baby can enjoy some sensory play with me whilst parents rest or work, I can also spend time with the whole family showing you the things baby will enjoy. If required I can take baby to classes and groups with or without parents.

Helping hand

We all know how hard it can be to complete those little tasks around the house, with a newborn baby. I'm happy to help, load the dishwasher and make a cup of tea. I'll tidy the nursery and pop a hoover round, so parents can enjoy some time with baby without the added pressure. (please note, I'm here to help but Im afraid I am not the cleaner, I can recommend some great cleaners if needed!! )

Rest

If parents need some downtime in the day, I'm happy to hold the fort with baby for as long as you need.

Also I do offer overnight stays, where I will deal with night wakings and feeds, a nights solid sleep for parents can do wonders!

Out and About

I'll take baby out for walks in the pram or carrier, and as mentioned before I can take baby out to groups , classes or even appointments with or without parents as needed.

Relax

Need some you time, roots looking desperate? A massage to help with those new parent body aches? Leave baby with me and go and get some precious relaxation time.
